Organized Agricultural Zone for Greenhouses in Yozgat are to Boost Employment and Economy

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the Yerköy Geothermal-Based Organized Agricultural Zone for Greenhouses (Greenhouse OAZ) is expected to create at least 1,500 jobs and contribute 1.2 billion Turkish Liras annually to the Turkish economy.

In a written statement, Yumaklı stated that efforts have been underway to harness the geothermal potential of Yozgat, one of Türkiye’s geothermal-rich provinces.

He recalled that a project was prepared under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to establish a geothermal-based greenhouse OAZ in the Yerköy district and noted that the establishment protocol of the region had been approved, granting it legal status.

The greenhouse OAZ will cover an area of 1,125 decares, and will be used for the production of seedlings, vegetables, and fruits. These products will be processed, packaged, and stored, increasing their added value.

Yumaklı highlighted that the OAZ will include biomass facilities, education and research centres, solar power plants, and waste management areas. “At least 30 high-tech greenhouses, each 25 decares in size, will produce 30,000 tons of vegetables and fruits annually. The region will employ at least 1,500 people, 75% of whom will be women. Once fully operational, our project will contribute 1.2 billion Turkish Liras per year to the economy,” he said.

"We will keep investing in organized agricultural zones."

Yumaklı emphasizing that modern agricultural production methods will be used in the Yerköy Geothermal-Based Greenhouse OAZ:

“Greenhouses heated with geothermal energy will serve as an agricultural hub for the production of high-quality and high-yield fresh fruits and vegetables. This greenhouse OAZ will help meet the fresh produce demand of Yozgat and neighbouring provinces while strengthening agricultural supply security and significantly contributing to the local economy. As the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, we will continue investing in greenhouse OAZs, which will play a pioneering role in the development of our cities and our country in the ‘century of production and producers.’ With the awareness that a strong country is built on strong agriculture, we will always stand by our producers.”
