Strawberries produced in the greenhouse established by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality at the Central Landfill will be distributed to citizens aged over 65 in the city, free of charge.
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality established a strawberry greenhouse using the heat generated from the electricity generated at the Central Solid Waste Landfill.
The first harvest of strawberries produced using hydroponic agriculture technique in the greenhouse located on an area of approximately 600 square meters is completed.
Before the harvest, Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Fatma Şahin told reporters that they hold zero waste and the environment at utmost importance.
Indicating that they are conducting some studies within the scope of the project zero waste and strawberry greenhouse being one of them, Şahin noted the following:
"In this facility we will have 8 tons of strawberries per year. We will give away the strawberries produced here to our citizens over 65. We want to consume these quality strawberries together with them and continue our journey of serving the nation with their good wishes. We have written an extraordinary success story together with our solar energy on one front, as our project zero waste is on the other front while the strawberries produced are on a third."
After the speech, Şahin and her entourage participated in the harvest.
