Turkish Seed Sector to Become a Global Brand

Yıldıray Gençer, President of the Seed Industrialists and Producers Sub-Union (TSÜAB): "Next year, we will host seed industry professionals from around the world at the World Seed Congress in Istanbul Convention Center. Bringing the global seed community together in Istanbul will create significant advantages and opportunities for Turkey's seed sector."

Yıldıray Gençer, President of TSÜAB, stated that Turkey will host the World Seed Congress next year and the Asia Pacific Seed Association Congress in 2026. These events, along with subsequent initiatives, aim to establish Turkey as a globally recognized brand in the seed sector.

Gençer highlighted significant advancements in Turkey's seed industry in recent years. He emphasized efforts to develop new seed varieties resistant to climate change, water scarcity, and diseases.

"Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the R&D departments of our private sector, we are now able to compete globally with innovative and successful seed varieties," he noted.

Referring to a new production model introduced by the Ministry this year, Gençer underlined the advantages of contract farming, describing it as the beginning of a new era for farmers.

He also reported that the sector had achieved exports exceeding $330 million this year.

"Turkey has firmly established its position in the global seed industry," he remarked.

"The entire world is discussing developments in Turkey's seed sector. With the state's financial support, our firms can grow further and develop new varieties. Despite some challenges, we view 2024 as a promising year."

Asia Pacific Seed Association Congress in Antalya in 2026

Gençer emphasized that 2025 will open new doors for the Turkish seed industry, with significant international developments and initiatives on the horizon.

He noted that the World Seed Congress is the largest and most prestigious event in the global seed industry:

"Next year, we will host the World Seed Congress in Istanbul, where seed industry professionals from around the world will come together. This will create tremendous opportunities and advantages for Turkey's seed sector.

"In 2026, Antalya will host the Asia Pacific Seed Association Congress. Following these two major events, we anticipate that Turkey will be discussed in a new light within the global seed community, opening up new horizons for the sector. With these congresses, Turkish seeds will become a global brand."

Gençer concluded by stating that the sector aims to achieve $500 million in exports next year.
