Alarko Holding Takes Steps to Offset Carbon Footprint of Ortaköy Headquarters

Celebrating its 70th anniversary, Alarko Group of Companies is conducting multiple simultaneous projects with its subsidiaries to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Alarko Holding has begun offsetting the direct and indirect carbon footprint of its headquarters in Ortaköy, Istanbul, by purchasing the International Green Energy (I-REC) Certificate and wind energy-based Gold Carbon Credits to ensure carbon neutrality.

According to a statement from the company, Alarko Group of Companies, celebrating its 70th anniversary, is carrying out various projects in line with its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Prioritizing energy and resource efficiency as well as the use of renewable energy, the holding aims to offset the carbon footprint of its headquarters annually through Gold Carbon and I-REC certificates.

Planning all new investments in accordance with environmental and social responsibility principles, the holding supports the transition to a low-carbon economy through investments in innovative technologies, R&D studies, and circular business models. Additionally, the company aims to actively contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Women's Empowerment Principles.

Alarko Advances Sustainable Agriculture with Geothermal Energy

Entering the agricultural sector in 2023 to contribute to the production of healthy and reliable food, Alarko implements sustainable geothermal energy practices in its modern greenhouses. Geothermal water is reinjected into underground reserves without surface contact, preserving the natural cycle. The pesticide-free products grown using advanced smart farming technologies are offered to both domestic consumers and international markets.

Alarko Agriculture Group’s hybrid micro granular fertilizer factory in Çankırı stands out with its environmentally sustainable production model. Compared to traditional methods, the factory consumes 65% less energy and 70% less water, while its 1,200-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar energy system meets 35% of its energy needs.

Alarko Energy Group aims to contribute to the transition to a low-carbon economy by investing in renewable energy sources and energy storage systems. The group plans to increase its existing 140-megawatt (MW) renewable energy capacity 3.5 times over the next five years, reaching 640 MW.

This year, Alarko partnered with "Gotion Group," one of the world’s leading technology and battery manufacturers, to establish energy storage systems and a lithium-ion battery production line. This investment includes the establishment of an R&D center in Türkiye and the export of products abroad.

Adopting sustainability as a core strategy in its production processes, Alarko Industry and Trade Group aims to generate 500,000 kWh of electricity annually with the solar energy system installed on the roof of the Alarko Carrier Eskişehir Factory. The facility minimizes wastewater generation through a closed-loop water recycling system implemented in its boiler production line.

Alarko Industry and Trade Group is also making a significant contribution to combating climate change with the introduction of Alarko-branded photovoltaic panels to its product portfolio in the last quarter of 2023.
